Viroflu + MVA-NP + M1 is a combination influenza vaccine regimen developed by the University of Oxford's Jenner Institute in collaboration with Vaccitech. It consists of the licensed seasonal virosome-adjuvanted vaccine Viroflu (also known as Inflexal V) and an investigational viral-vectored vaccine, MVA-NP+M1. The MVA-NP+M1 component utilizes a replication-deficient modified vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) vector to deliver a fusion protein of two highly conserved internal influenza A antigens: nucleoprotein (NP) and matrix protein 1 (M1). While Viroflu provides standard protection by inducing antibodies against the surface hemagglutinin of seasonal H1N1, H3N2, and B strains, MVA-NP+M1 is designed to elicit potent T-cell responses that recognize conserved epitopes across different influenza A subtypes. This heterologous prime-boost-like co-administration strategy aims to provide broader and more durable protection than seasonal vaccines alone, potentially offering coverage against drifted or pandemic strains.
