Overview

**Virulizin + gemcitabine** is a combination therapy consisting of Virulizin, a biological response modifier and immunotherapeutic agent, and gemcitabine, a nucleoside analog chemotherapeutic. Virulizin is derived from bovine reticuloendothelial tissue and is composed of a mixture of proteins and peptides. Its primary mechanism is through immunomodulation, specifically activation of macrophages, natural killer (NK) cells, and the promotion of cytokines like TNF-alpha and IL-17E. Gemcitabine is a cytotoxic small molecule that inhibits DNA synthesis, functioning as a standard of care for pancreatic cancer. The combination was evaluated for synergistic effects on antitumor activity in solid tumors, especially in advanced pancreatic cancer, generally with Virulizin enhancing immune-mediated antitumor responses while gemcitabine provides direct cytotoxicity.
