Virus-specific T cells (VSTs) are an investigational adoptive cell therapy being developed by Peking University People's Hospital for the treatment of refractory Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infections. The therapy consists of donor-derived or partially HLA-matched cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) that are expanded ex vivo to recognize specific viral antigens. Following infusion into patients who have undergone allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), these T cells provide targeted antiviral immunity, helping to control viral replication in the absence of a robust endogenous immune response. The program is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial (NCT06075927) to assess safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy in transplant recipients with infections resistant to standard antiviral pharmacotherapy.
