A combination therapy consisting of **vitamin C (ascorbic acid)**, **deferiprone**, and **deferasirox**, used for the management of iron overload, primarily in patients with transfusion-dependent anemias such as β-thalassemia major. **Vitamin C** acts as an antioxidant and can increase the efficacy of iron chelators by promoting the mobilization of stored iron, making it more available for chelation and excretion. **Deferiprone** and **deferasirox** are both oral **iron chelators**: deferiprone is a bidentate chelator and deferasirox is a tridentate chelator. When used in combination (DFP+DFX), these agents have demonstrated additive or synergistic effects in reducing body iron burden in patients for whom monotherapy is inadequate. The use of vitamin C with iron chelators should be monitored because ascorbate can release iron from tissue stores, potentially increasing transient iron toxicity if not immediately chelated[1][2][3][5][7][8].
