VLP Therapeutics is developing a preclinical-stage therapeutic cancer vaccine using its proprietary i-αVLP (inserted alphavirus virus-like particle) platform. This platform involves displaying rationally designed, disease-targeting epitopes on the surface of non-replicative virus-like particles derived from alphaviruses such as Chikungunya and Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis viruses. The vaccine is specifically designed to target immune checkpoint molecules, including Programmed Cell Death Protein 1 (PD-1) and Programmed Death-Ligand 1 (PD-L1), to modulate anti-tumor immunity. By inducing an endogenous immune response against these checkpoints, the vaccine aims to provide a safer and potentially more effective alternative to traditional monoclonal antibody-based checkpoint inhibitors for the treatment of multiple cancer types. The development of this program was supported by a Phase I SBIR grant from the National Cancer Institute.
