Overview
Vonoprazan is an orally administered small-molecule potassium-competitive acid blocker that reversibly and competitively inhibits the gastric hydrogen-potassium ATPase proton pump in parietal cells, producing rapid and sustained suppression of gastric acid secretion. It was discovered and developed by Takeda and is marketed as Takecab, Vocinti, and Voquezna. In the provided Phase 4 randomized study sponsored by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, vonoprazan is evaluated as the acid-suppressing component of furazolidone-based quadruple therapy versus esomeprazole-based quadruple therapy for first-line eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection. Vonoprazan is also approved in multiple markets for acid-related disorders and, with antibacterial therapy, for H. pylori eradication.
