Overview
A combination therapy consisting of vonoprazan fumarate and the traditional Chinese medicine Zuojin Pills (Zuojinwan). Vonoprazan is a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) that inhibits the H+,K+-ATPase enzyme in the gastric parietal cells, providing rapid and sustained suppression of gastric acid secretion. Zuojin Pills is a classic TCM formula composed of *Coptis chinensis* and *Evodia rutaecarpa* (typically in a 6:1 ratio), traditionally used to treat gastrointestinal disorders associated with liver fire and stomach heat. This combination is being investigated by Nanjing First Hospital, Nanjing Medical University, for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in patients with comorbid depression, aiming to improve both physical reflux symptoms and psychological distress through a synergistic approach addressing acid suppression and traditional harmonizing effects.
