VRC-EBODNA023-00-VP and VRC-MARDNA025-00-VP are investigational DNA plasmid vaccines developed by the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). These vaccines are designed to prevent Ebola virus disease and Marburg virus disease, respectively. The platform utilizes a DNA plasmid technology with a CMV/R promoter to encode viral glycoprotein antigens. Upon intramuscular administration, host cells take up the plasmids and express the viral proteins, which then stimulate both humoral (antibody) and cellular (T-cell) immune responses against the filoviruses. These candidates have been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials, including studies in healthy adults in Uganda, to assess their safety and immunogenicity profile.
