VSV-IFNβ-NIS + avelumab is an investigational combination therapy for cancer, particularly solid tumors. VSV-IFNβ-NIS (also known as Voyager-V1 or VV1) is an oncolytic virus therapy derived from vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), engineered to selectively infect and kill cancer cells. It encodes human interferon beta (IFNβ) to enhance antitumor immune responses and the sodium iodide symporter (NIS) for imaging viral spread. Avelumab is a human monoclonal antibody targeting programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1), blocking its interaction with PD-1 receptors on T cells, thereby releasing suppression of the immune response against tumor cells. The combination aims to inflame tumors via direct oncolysis and immune activation by the virus, while avelumab further enhances antitumor immunity by inhibiting PD-L1-mediated immunosuppression[4][5][6][8].
