Overview

Vunakizumab + recaticimab is a combination therapy consisting of two monoclonal antibodies: vunakizumab, an interleukin-17A (IL-17A) inhibitor, and recaticimab, a proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitor. This combination is being investigated in clinical trials, specifically by Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, for the treatment of patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis who also suffer from dyslipidemia. Vunakizumab works by neutralizing IL-17A, a key pro-inflammatory cytokine in the pathogenesis of psoriasis, thereby reducing skin inflammation and plaque formation. Recaticimab targets PCSK9 to increase the density of low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR) on the surface of hepatocytes, leading to enhanced clearance of LDL cholesterol from the blood. The rationale for the combination is to address both the primary autoimmune skin condition and the common metabolic comorbidity (dyslipidemia) which increases cardiovascular risk in psoriasis patients.
