Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VX-135 + ribavirin is a combination therapy consisting of VX-135, a nucleotide analog inhibitor of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS5B RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, and ribavirin, a nucleoside analog with broad-spectrum antiviral activity. VX-135, formerly developed by Vertex Pharmaceuticals, is an investigational direct-acting antiviral (DAA) evaluated for chronic hepatitis C infection. Ribavirin is a well-established antiviral used in combination regimens for HCV treatment. The combination was investigated in clinical trials to assess its safety and efficacy in treatment-naïve subjects with chronic hepatitis C[4]. VX-135 inhibits the viral RNA polymerase, blocking viral replication, while ribavirin is thought to act by inducing lethal mutagenesis and immunomodulatory effects[6][1].
