Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wei's Qi Ju Gan Lu Formula is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal preparation specifically formulated for the treatment of dry eye disease (DED) in peri- and post-menopausal women. Developed and studied by the Singapore National Eye Centre, the formula is designed to address "yin deficiency," a TCM syndrome frequently associated with menopause and ocular dryness. The formula is a modification of traditional "Qi Ju" (Lycium and Chrysanthemum) preparations, which are historically used to nourish the liver and improve vision. By utilizing botanical ingredients that may contain phytoestrogens and anti-inflammatory compounds, the formula aims to provide a holistic and accessible alternative to conventional topical treatments like cyclosporine, particularly for patients whose symptoms are driven by hormonal imbalances rather than significant corneal damage.
