Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wei's Huoxue Tongluo Granules is a specialized Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) hospital preparation developed by the ophthalmology department of Dongfang Hospital, affiliated with the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. Formulated based on the clinical expertise of Professor Wei Qiuping, the granules are primarily indicated for the treatment of non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). The therapeutic mechanism is rooted in the TCM principles of 'Huoxue Tongluo' (promoting blood circulation and dredging collaterals), which aims to improve microcirculation in the optic nerve head, reduce vascular resistance, and alleviate optic disc edema. Clinical studies have suggested that the formula helps protect retinal ganglion cells and improve visual function in patients suffering from sudden vision loss due to ischemic events in the retrobulbar tissues.
