Overview

Weichang'an is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula used primarily for gastrointestinal disorders. It is most commonly indicated for diarrhoea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D), where it has been shown to alleviate symptoms by modulating the cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) signaling pathway[1]. The formula also demonstrates anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral properties[3], and has been studied for its effects on ulcerative colitis and constipation[4][6]. In oncology research, Weichang'an has shown potential in inhibiting tumor growth in gastric and colorectal cancer models by inducing mitochondrial apoptosis in cancer cells through modulation of proteins such as Bcl-2 family members and caspases[2][5]. Its mechanisms include regulation of cell proliferation, apoptosis induction via mitochondrial pathways, inhibition of STAT3 signaling in tumors, and improvement of gastrointestinal motility.
