White soft paraffin + cetomacrogol cream is a topical emollient formulation used to restore and maintain the skin barrier. It combines white soft paraffin (petrolatum), which acts as an occlusive agent to prevent transepidermal water loss, with cetomacrogol cream, a non-ionic emulsifying cream base. This formulation does not contain any pharmacologically active ingredients targeting specific biological receptors; instead, it functions purely as a physical barrier to hydrate the skin. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial sponsored by Havenziekenhuis, this formulation was evaluated as the emollient-alone control arm in wet-wrap therapy (WWT) for pediatric patients aged 6 months to 10 years with severe atopic dermatitis.
