This WT1 peptide vaccine is an experimental immunotherapy developed by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) for the treatment of high-risk hematological malignancies, including myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and various forms of leukemia (AML, ALL, CML, CMML). The vaccine utilizes a specific peptide sequence (WT-1:126-134) derived from the Wilms' Tumor 1 (WT1) protein, which is frequently overexpressed in these cancers. To maximize immunogenicity, the peptide is formulated with Montanide adjuvant and administered in conjunction with Sargramostim (recombinant GM-CSF). The therapeutic goal is to induce a robust T-cell mediated immune response, specifically activating cytotoxic T lymphocytes to target and destroy WT1-expressing malignant cells.
