Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xianlinggubao + eucommia ulmoides is a combination of the traditional Chinese medicine formulation Xianlinggubao (仙灵骨葆) and Eucommia ulmoides (杜仲). Xianlinggubao is a multi-herb formula containing Epimedium (淫羊藿), Dipsacus asper (续断), Salvia miltiorrhiza (丹参), Anemarrhena asphodeloides (知母), Psoralea corylifolia (补骨脂), and Rehmannia glutinosa (地黄). It is used to tonify the liver and kidney, strengthen bones and tendons, promote blood circulation, relieve pain, and treat osteoporosis, bone fractures, osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis of bone, and related conditions. Eucommia ulmoides is a medicinal plant traditionally used for its bone-strengthening properties; it has demonstrated estrogen-like effects in animal studies by increasing serum estradiol levels and improving bone density. The combination aims to synergistically enhance bone formation, inhibit bone resorption, modulate hormone levels such as estrogen/testosterone/osteocalcin/calcitonin/parathyroid hormone/interleukin-6/tumor necrosis factor-alpha/insulin-like growth factor-1/bone morphogenetic protein-2/receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand/osteoprotegerin pathways involved in osteoporosis pathogenesis. The mechanism involves promoting osteoblast activity/maturation/mineralization while inhibiting osteoclast-mediated resorption.
