Overview
Xiao'er Zhike Tangjiang is an over-the-counter (OTC) pediatric cough syrup developed and marketed by Ginwa Enterprise. It is a combination pharmaceutical product formulated according to standard Chinese pharmacopoeia specifications, typically containing ammonium chloride, glycyrrhiza liquid extract, platycodon liquid extract, and orange peel tincture. The syrup functions as both an expectorant and a demulcent; ammonium chloride and the saponins in platycodon act by irritating the gastric mucosa to reflexively stimulate the secretion of respiratory tract fluids, which helps to liquefy and loosen phlegm. Glycyrrhiza provides a soothing effect on the respiratory mucosa, acting as a mild antitussive. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of cough and the promotion of expectoration in children suffering from colds or bronchitis.
