Xingnaojing + Naoxueshu

Xingnaojing + Naoxueshu is a combination therapy of two traditional Chinese medicines being evaluated for the treatment of acute intracerebral hemorrhage (hemorrhagic stroke). [2-1] The regimen consists of Xingnaojing injection administered once daily for 10 days and Naoxueshu oral liquid given three times daily for 30 days. [2-1] Xingnaojing is an injectable preparation derived from the traditional Angong Niuhuang pill and is produced by steam distilling botanical drugs including Curcuma aromatica, Gardenia jasminoides, and Moschus (musk). [5-3, 5-4, 7-1, 10-1] It is suggested to have anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and consciousness-restoring effects, and is able to penetrate the blood-brain barrier. [6, 7] Naoxueshu oral liquid is a traditional Chinese patent medicine containing ingredients such as leech, astragalus root, Rhizome Chuanxiong calamus, and Achyranthes. [8-1] It is believed to work by promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, and has demonstrated anticoagulant, anti-platelet, and anti-inflammatory properties. [1, 18] The combination is being studied to determine if it can improve clinical outcomes by promoting hematoma absorption and reducing cerebral edema around the hematoma in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage. [2-23, 2-24]
