Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xuefuzhuyu Decoction + calcium dobesilate is a combination therapy consisting of Xuefuzhuyu Decoction (XFZYD), a classical traditional Chinese herbal formula, and calcium dobesilate, a synthetic vasoactive drug. XFZYD is composed of 11 herbs and is traditionally used to promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, alleviate pain, and improve cardiovascular health. Its mechanisms include anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects mediated by active compounds such as quercetin, β-carotene, and kaempferol; it modulates pathways like AMPK-mTOR signaling (inhibiting autophagy), AGE-RAGE signaling cascade, TNF signaling pathway, MAPK pathway, lipid metabolism regulation, and apoptosis modulation. Calcium dobesilate acts primarily as a vascular protective agent by reducing capillary permeability and improving microcirculation through inhibition of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) activity. The combination has been studied in the context of diabetic retinopathy—where it aims to improve retinal microcirculation—and other cardiovascular or microvascular complications. Clinical studies suggest that this combination may be more effective than either component alone for certain indications.
