Yellow fever vaccine (YF17D-204) is a live, attenuated viral vaccine used for active immunization against yellow fever. Derived from the original 17D strain developed in the 1930s, the 17D-204 substrain is cultured in embryonated chicken eggs and formulated without adjuvants. It is marketed under brand names such as YF-VAX and Stamaril by Sanofi. The vaccine works by replicating subclinically in the recipient, stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies and virus-specific T-cell responses that provide long-lasting, often lifelong, protection against yellow fever virus infection.
