Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yttrium (90Y) citrate colloid (YMM-1) is a therapeutic radiopharmaceutical developed by CIS bio international (now part of Curium) for radiosynoviorthesis (RSO) of the knee joint. It is administered via intra-articular injection to treat severe joint pain and inflammation associated with chronic inflammatory joint diseases, particularly rheumatoid arthritis, monoarthritis, or oligoarthritis, as well as hemophilic arthropathy. Upon injection, the colloidal particles of yttrium-90 citrate are phagocytosed by the superficial lining cells of the inflamed synovial membrane. The beta radiation emitted by the yttrium-90 isotope (with a physical half-life of approximately 64 hours) delivers localized radiation to the synovium, leading to cell death, fibrosis, and sclerosis of the synovial membrane, thereby reducing joint effusion and pain.
