Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ZD55 + interferon beta is a combination therapy consisting of an oncolytic adenovirus (ZD55) engineered to express **human interferon beta (IFN-β)**. ZD55 is a modified type 5 adenovirus with E1B-55K gene deletion, making it selectively replicate in and lyse tumor cells. The expressed interferon beta exerts antitumor effects via induction of apoptosis and immune modulation. In preclinical studies and early development, ZD55-IFN-β demonstrated direct oncolytic activity as well as enhancement of anti-tumor immune responses. The therapy is primarily being studied for various malignancies, with demonstrated activity in models of cancer, either alone or in combination with agents such as doxorubicin[1].
