A combination of three antiretroviral drugs—zidovudine, didanosine, and nevirapine—used in the treatment of HIV-1 infection. Zidovudine and didanosine are nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), while nevirapine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI). Together, they inhibit HIV replication by targeting the viral reverse transcriptase enzyme through different mechanisms: NRTIs act as chain terminators after incorporation into viral DNA, while NNRTIs bind directly to reverse transcriptase to inhibit its activity. This regimen was among the early highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) combinations shown to provide substantial and sustained virologic suppression in antiretroviral-naive adults with HIV-1 infection[1][2][3][8]. The primary indication is for the treatment of HIV-1 infection.
