Retrozone-L is a fixed-dose combination antiretroviral medication developed by CND Pharma for the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV-1) infection. It consists of two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs): zidovudine (300 mg) and lamivudine (150 mg). Both components are structural analogs of natural nucleosides that, upon intracellular phosphorylation to their active triphosphate forms, compete with natural substrates for incorporation into viral DNA. Because they lack a 3'-hydroxyl group, their incorporation leads to premature DNA chain termination, effectively inhibiting the HIV reverse transcriptase enzyme and blocking viral replication. Retrozone-L is typically used as part of a comprehensive antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimen to manage chronic HIV infection and reduce the risk of disease progression.
