Zidovudine + lamivudine + efavirenz is a fixed-dose antiretroviral combination used in the treatment of HIV-1 infection. This regimen combines two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs)—zidovudine and lamivudine—with one non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI)—efavirenz. The NRTIs act by incorporating themselves into viral DNA and causing chain termination during reverse transcription, while efavirenz binds directly to reverse transcriptase and inhibits its activity through a different mechanism.
