Silica is not an essential nutrient but is sometimes included in supplements for purported connective tissue benefits. There is no established pharmaceutical product or FDA-approved drug that combines only zinc and silica as active ingredients; such combinations are primarily found in dietary supplements. The mechanisms of action for zinc involve enzymatic cofactor activity, support of the immune system, antioxidant effects, and facilitation of protein synthesis[1][4][5]. Silica is mainly thought to contribute structurally to connective tissue but has no recognized pharmacological target.
