Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zinc gluconate + vitamin A is a combination dietary supplement containing zinc in the form of zinc gluconate and vitamin A. This combination is primarily used to prevent or treat deficiencies of these nutrients, which may occur due to poor diet, certain illnesses, or increased physiological needs such as during pregnancy[2][3]. Zinc plays an essential role in immune function, wound healing, DNA synthesis, and cell division. Vitamin A is crucial for vision, immune system performance, reproduction, and cellular communication. The mechanism of action involves providing supplemental levels of both micronutrients to support normal physiological functions and correct deficiencies. Clinical studies have shown that supplementation with both can reduce the incidence or severity of conditions like diarrhea and pneumonia in children[10], though adding zinc does not necessarily improve vitamin A status itself.
