Overview

Zinc oxide + ketoconazole + hydrocortisone is a topical, multi-ingredient small-molecule combination formulation being investigated by Medisch Centrum Leeuwarden in the Netherlands. The formulation consists of zinc oxide 10% (a skin-protective barrier agent) in a ketoconazole cream base (an antifungal targeting fungal cytochrome P450 sterol synthesis), with or without the addition of hydrocortisone-acetate 1% (a mild corticosteroid for anti-inflammatory effect). It is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of intertrigo, a common inflammatory skin condition occurring in large skin folds such as the groin, inframammary region, and axillae. The drug is currently in Phase 3 clinical development, utilizing a bilateral study design to assess the reduction of affected skin area and improvement of local symptoms like pruritus, pain, and redness.
