Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zuvisome is a liposomal formulation of the polyene antifungal antibiotic amphotericin B, developed by Zuvius Lifesciences. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of severe systemic fungal infections, including invasive aspergillosis, candidiasis, and cryptococcal meningitis, as well as visceral leishmaniasis. The liposomal delivery system is designed to improve the drug's therapeutic index by significantly reducing nephrotoxicity, a common side effect of conventional amphotericin B deoxycholate. Its mechanism of action involves binding to ergosterol, a key component of fungal cell membranes, which leads to the formation of transmembrane pores. These pores cause the leakage of essential intracellular components, resulting in fungal cell death.
