2',5'-Oligoadenylate Synthetase (OAS)

Target
OAS
Molecular classification

Overview

2',5'-Oligoadenylate synthetase (OAS) is a family of enzymes that play a central role in the innate immune response to viral infection. Upon detection of dsRNA, OAS enzymes catalyze the conversion of ATP into 2',5'-linked oligomers of adenosine (2-5A), activating RNase L and leading to RNA degradation. There are multiple isoforms of OAS enzymes. OAS proteins are also involved in other cellular processes such as apoptosis and growth control.
