Overview

2'-5'-Oligoadenylate synthetase like 2, pseudogene (OASL2P) is classified as a pseudogene, rather than an active protein-coding gene[3]. Pseudogenes arise from gene duplications or retrotransposition events and typically do not encode functional proteins because of mutations that disrupt their coding sequence or regulatory regions. OASL2P is predicted based on sequence similarity with other oligoadenylate synthetases but lacks demonstrable functional protein product. Thus, it is not a therapeutic target, is not associated with known biological pathways or disease mechanisms, and does not interact with any known drugs. The functional, related OAS proteins (such as OAS1, OAS2, OAS3, and OASL) are interferon-induced antiviral enzymes essential for innate immunity, but OASL2P itself does not contribute to these activities[1][2][4][5][3].
