PDE4B (phosphodiesterase 4B) is an enzyme that hydrolyzes and inactivates cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), a key second messenger involved in regulating numerous physiological processes. It belongs to the type IV, cAMP-specific cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase family. PDE4B regulates cellular concentrations of cAMP, impacting signal transduction for hormones, neurotransmitters, and other extracellular signals. It is involved in various biological processes, including immune responses and CNS signaling. Altered activity is linked with various cancers and neuropsychiatric disorders. It is targeted by drugs like rolipram and crisaborole. Multiple splice variants exist.
