3,4-Methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine (MDMA) is a psychoactive drug primarily known for its empathogenic effects. It acts by increasing the activity of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine in the brain, leading to altered mood, perception, and cognition.
