PDE3A is a member of the cGMP-inhibited cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase (cGI-PDE) family. It is an enzyme that hydrolyzes both cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), which are key second messengers involved in regulating numerous physiological processes. PDE3A plays a critical role in regulation of cardiac muscle contractility, vascular smooth muscle contraction, and platelet aggregation. It is also an emerging target for cancer therapy, with certain compounds inducing apoptosis specifically in cancer cells overexpressing PDE3A.
Catalyzes the breakdown of cAMP/cGMP to their inactive forms. In oncology, some ligands act as molecular glues inducing protein-protein interactions, leading to apoptosis in cancer cells.
