3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase 2, pseudogene 1 (BDH2P1) is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 4. It is annotated based on its homology to the BDH2 gene, which encodes an active enzyme involved in the metabolism of ketone bodies, but BDH2P1 itself is not transcribed into a functional protein. Pseudogenes like BDH2P1 generally arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and typically do not produce functional proteins. Some pseudogenes can regulate gene expression or act as non-coding RNAs, but no evidence supports such a role for BDH2P1.
