3-oxoacyl-[acyl-carrier-protein] reductase (FabG)

Target
FabG
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Oxidoreductase
01

Overview

3-oxoacyl-[acyl-carrier-protein] reductase (FabG) is an enzyme crucial for fatty acid biosynthesis in bacteria and plants. It catalyzes the NADPH-dependent reduction of 3-oxoacyl-[ACP] to (3R)-3-hydroxyacyl-[ACP], a key step in the elongation cycle of fatty acid synthesis. As it is essential for bacterial viability and absent from the human cytosolic type I FAS system, FabG is a promising target for antibiotic development.
