Overview

NT5DC1 pseudogene 1 (NT5DC1P1) is a DNA sequence resembling the protein-coding gene NT5DC1, but due to accumulated mutations, it does not produce a functional protein. As with other pseudogenes, NT5DC1P1 may play regulatory roles in the cell, such as modulating expression of its functional counterpart or related genes through non-coding RNA pathways, including acting as a source of short interfering RNAs or as a microRNA decoy. These functions can contribute to genetic diversity and may influence disease processes indirectly, but there is no evidence it acts as a classical receptor, enzyme, or other pharmacologically actionable target.
