Overview

RN7SL140P is a pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA gene family, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), involved in protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum[1][4][3]. As a pseudogene, RN7SL140P is a nonfunctional, truncated genomic sequence representing a copy of the functional 7SL RNA gene. The majority of 7SL-like sequences in the human genome are pseudogenes generated by the reverse transcription and insertion of 7SL RNA back into genomic DNA, often missing segments at the 5′ and/or 3′ ends[1][4]. While the canonical 7SL RNA is essential for SRP function and protein secretion, pseudogenes like RN7SL140P do not produce functional RNA and are generally considered to lack biological activity.
