Overview

RN7SL735P is a human pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA gene, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) involved in co-translational protein targeting. Pseudogenes like RN7SL735P are nonfunctional DNA segments resembling actual genes but have accumulated mutations, truncations, or lack necessary promoters, rendering them inactive; they do not produce the functional 7SL RNA or any associated protein. 7SL pseudogenes arise via retrotransposition and other genomic processes, resulting in truncated and diversified sequences across the genome. RN7SL735P is not expressed or functional and is not considered a therapeutic drug target.

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

None (for this locus specifically)Pseudogenes can, in some cases, participate in gene regulation as long non-coding RNAs, but for RN7SL735P, there is no evidence of such function
04

Disease associations

None known directly. The majority of 7SL RNA pseudogenes are not associated with disease, though pseudogenes in general can sometimes influence gene expression
05

Safety considerations

None specific to this pseudogenePseudogenes can complicate genetic assays because they can be amplified unintentionally during PCR or misannotated as real genes, causing confounds in diagnostics or research
