Acidic leucine-rich nuclear phosphoprotein 32 family member C, pseudogene (ANP32CP) is annotated as a human pseudogene found on chromosome 4. Pseudogenes are genetic elements similar to known genes but are generally non-functional due to lack of transcription or translation into active proteins. While other ANP32 family members play roles in cell cycle regulation, apoptosis, oncogenesis, and response to chemotherapeutic drugs, ANP32CP itself does not encode an active protein in humans and therefore has no known physiological or pathological function. Confusion arises because related genes such as pp32r1 (ANP32C, sometimes PP32R1) encode proteins that have been described as oncogenic or interacting with drugs like FTY720, but ANP32CP itself should not be treated as a valid therapeutic target. ANP32CP is not to be confused with ANP32C/pp32r1, which may encode a functional protein in other organisms or experimental systems. Several databases and publications misleadingly refer to ANP32CP with protein-like nomenclature, although current gene curation lists it as non-protein-coding. If a therapeutic target is needed, more specific annotation or clarification should be made whether the functional pp32r1 (ANP32C) protein—not the pseudogene—was intended. For future structuring, it is critical to distinguish ANP32CP (pseudogene, not a target) from ANP32C/pp32r1 (potential protein target, especially in cancer research).
