Overview

ACOT13 acyl-CoA thioesterase 13, pseudogene (ENSG00000270200) is a non-functional genetic element similar in sequence to the functional ACOT13 gene but does not encode a protein[1]. Pseudogenes are typically the result of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and lack the ability to produce a biologically active product. The functional ACOT13 gene is known to encode an enzyme involved in fatty acid metabolism and mitochondrial regulation, but the pseudogene is not involved in these activities[3][4]. Therapeutic interest is limited to the protein-coding ACOT13 gene, not to this pseudogene.
