Acyl-coenzyme A cholesterol O-acyltransferase 2 (ACAT2) is an enzyme that catalyzes the formation of cholesteryl esters from cholesterol and long-chain fatty acyl-CoA. It is localized primarily to the endoplasmic reticulum in hepatocytes and enterocytes, and plays a key role in cholesterol homeostasis and lipoprotein assembly.
