A peripheral adrenergic neuron is a type of neuron in the peripheral nervous system that releases catecholamines—primarily norepinephrine (noradrenaline) and, to a lesser extent, epinephrine (adrenaline)—as neurotransmitters. These neurons are key components of the sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system and play crucial roles in regulating cardiovascular function, smooth muscle tone, metabolism, and pain sensation.
