AFG3-like AAA ATPase 1, pseudogene (AFG3L1P), is a non-protein-coding sequence in the human genome that is transcribed but does not generate a functional protein[3]. It shares sequence homology with the functional mitochondrial AAA protease AFG3L1, but differs in that it contains mutations leading to a lack of protein-coding capacity[1][3]. Unlike its parent gene, AFG3L1P has no confirmed direct biological or pathological function and is classified as a pseudogene[3][4]. There are predictions—based solely on sequence homology—that it could be related to protein processing and mitochondrial dynamics, but these have no confirmed experimental support, as it does not produce protein[5][7][9]. No drugs are known to target this locus, and it is not used as a biomarker or therapeutic target.
