Alcohol dehydrogenase 5 (class III), chi polypeptide pseudogene (ADH5P1)

Target
ADH5P1
Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

Alcohol dehydrogenase 5 (class III), chi polypeptide pseudogene (ADH5P1) is a non-coding sequence in the human genome related by sequence to the ADH5 gene family. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to known genes but non-functional due to mutations, deletions, or premature stop codons. This pseudogene shares similarity with the coding region of ADH5, but due to frameshifts and internal stop codons, it cannot produce a functional enzyme. Unlike its parental gene ADH5, which plays a role in formaldehyde and alcohol metabolism, the pseudogene lacks biological or pharmacological functionality and is not considered in drug development or clinical diagnostics.
