The Aldehyde dehydrogenase 6 family, member A1 pseudogene (ENSG00000248687) is an unprocessed gene duplicate derived from the enzyme-encoding ALDH6A1 locus. Unlike the functional ALDH6A1 gene, which produces mitochondrial methylmalonate semialdehyde dehydrogenase critical for catabolism of valine, pyrimidine, leucine, and isoleucine, this pseudogene does not encode a functional protein, and has no direct biological, pharmacological, or therapeutic relevance. Its sequence contains truncations or mutations that preclude the normal expression or enzymatic activity found in its parent locus.
