Overview

ALG1 like 1, pseudogene (ALG1L1P) is a genetic element classified as a pseudogene, meaning it has sequence similarity to the protein-coding gene ALG1L1 but is not known to encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes are typically non-transcribed or non-translated, often arising from duplications or mutations of ancestral genes. There is no evidence that ALG1L1P serves as a therapeutic target, nor is it known to play roles in cellular signaling, disease, or drug interactions. It should not be confused with the protein-coding gene ALG1 (chitobiosyldiphosphodolichol beta-mannosyltransferase), which is a glycosyltransferase involved in N-linked glycosylation and is clinically relevant[1][2]. "Pseudogene" status means ALG1L1P does not function as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or similar target class. Occasionally, pseudogenes are implicated in regulatory RNA functions, but no such function is documented for ALG1L1P. Any association with glycosylation pathways attributed to the functional ALG1 or ALG1L1 gene should not be transferred to ALG1L1P unless new functional data emerges.
