Alpha-(1,3)-fucosyltransferase 4 (FUT4) is an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of fucose from GDP-fucose to N-acetylglucosamine within N-acetyllactosamine polysaccharides to produce fucosylated carbohydrates, notably the Lewis x antigen (CD15)[1][4][5]. The Lewis x antigen is important in cell-cell adhesion and has roles in normal myeloid differentiation and in malignancy transformation. FUT4 is a member of the glycosyltransferase family specialising in the alpha(1,3)-fucosylation of glycoproteins and glycolipids. Its dysfunction or overexpression has been linked to tumor progression, immunological changes, and aberrant cell signaling[1][3][5].
