Overview

Alpha-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (reduced form), abbreviated as α-NADH, is a variant of the NADH molecule in which the anomeric center of the ribosyldihydronicotinamide moiety has alpha configuration rather than the more common beta configuration[6][13]. NADH itself is a critical coenzyme in cellular metabolism, especially serving as an electron carrier during energy production in mitochondria, but α-NADH is a rare isomer with no established therapeutic target role or clinical significance[6][13][1][3]. The canonical biologically active species is the beta-NADH isomer, and α-NADH does not appear in standard biological redox reactions. Therefore, "α-NADH" is either a misapplied chemical name or reference: it is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or therapeutic target, and does not participate in pharmacological mechanisms.
